PeopleSoft Enterprise Release 9.1 Adoption and Roadmap

Paco Aubrejuan, the GM of the PeopleSoft business unit within Oracle delivered what I view as the PeopleSoft "State of the Union" address this afternoon.

The session began with a quick summary of PeopleSoft 9.1 metrics (largely the same material as last year, except now looking backwards at it instead of forward). Paco got a show of hands from the packed room about who was on what release. A handful of stragglers on 8.8; most folks on 8.9 or 9.0 (evenly split). A few folks on 9.1 in the audience as well. Unfortunately he didn't ask about PeopleTools versions; I wanted to raise my hand for who is already using PeopleTools 8.51 :-)

He pointed out that the feedback that he has been getting from customers, prospects and analysts is that 9.1 is proof that Oracle is doing more than just incremental enhancements to PeopleSoft. He then ran through a list of customers using 9.1 and some of the specific things that they liked.

One example that particularly interesting was a company called Sime Darby. They have about 100k employees and use SAP for core HR (and financials I assume). They went through an evaluation for talent management and ended up selecting PeopleSoft, which is now integrated with SAP. Best of breed indeed!

He also showed a slide of the ramp up rate of 9.1 vs 9.0. Customer adoption over the same period of time (1 year from GA) was significantly steeper with 9.1.

(Publishing now as we head into dinner ; still more material to cover here)

Some statistics on customer adoption were interesting. There are 65+ customers that they know live on 9.1, with 900+ more working on implementations. There are over 1000 customers on PeopleTools 8.50 now (which is awesome).
